Councillor Chris Vining

Councillor Chris Vining

Councillor Chris Vining has called the City of Cold Lake home since 1998.

He was first elected to council in October 2010, and had a successful return to the role in the 2013 and 2017 elections.

Chris originally ran for council to ensure a great community for his two kids to grow up in, along with their grandparents as they move into retirement. Returning to council for a third time, Chris included both his children in his swearing-in ceremony, showing the support he has from his family for his role as councillor.

He has a background in education, after graduating with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta in 1992, and completing his Masters of Education in 2010.

At the beginning of his teaching career, Chris spent time in northern Saskatchewan and southern Alberta. Since 1998, he has been working with the Northern Lights School Division where he taught at Grand Centre High School for five years and later served as the Principal at Cold Lake Off Campus and Bridges Outreach. He is now the Principal at the Art Smith Aviation Academy on CFB Cold Lake.

When not at City Hall or attending an event in the community, Chris can be found officiating hockey, basketball, volleyball and football, as well as spending time with his wife Lynne and two children, Brooke and Lucas.
