Municipal Election

During an election year, this page will contain information to assist voters and candidates, including nomination forms and requirements, a list of officially nominated candidates, and information about voting locations and advance voting dates.

General information on Municipal Elections

Municipal elections are held in Alberta every four years. The last election was held October 20, 2025. Cold Lake voters elected the current City Council. The next election will be held October 2029.

Voters in Cold Lake elect one Mayor and six Councillors. The Mayor and City Councillors are elected "at large", meaning each elected official represents every resident of the city.

The Local Authorities Election Act governs municipal Elections in Alberta. It sets out rules and regulations for candidates, voters, donors, and election administrators that must be followed before, during and after an election. Additionally, Cold Lake's Election Bylaw establishes rules specific to the City of Cold Lake's municipal elections.
