Emergency Management Training This two-day workshop is in partnership with the Alberta Emergency Management Agency.  The target audience is intended for, but not limited to social services, emergency services, public health, local organizations, victim services, clergy, and non-government agencies.  Basic Emergency Management (BEM) is encouraged prior to the course.  A self-study version of BEM can be found online at http://www.aema.alberta.ca/bem.  If volunteers wish to work with Cold Lake and District FCSS Emergency Social Services, it is highly recommended that they complete the following courses.  Emergency Social Services – Day 1 Large-scale disasters require the activation of the community’s Emergency Social Services Response Plan to meet the urgent needs until regular social services or special recovery programs are in operation. The community’s Emergency Social Services Response Plan is a specialized component of the Municipal Emergency Plan. Registration and Inquiry Course – Day 2 In a major disaster, family members may become separated. This can trigger acute anxiety and fear. The Registration and Inquiry course, which is part of the municipality’s Disaster Social Services Response Plan, would be activated to collect information and answer inquiries about the condition and whereabouts of survivors. Developing Good Bedtime Routines     Children need a good night’s sleep so they have enough energy for the next day’s activities. Parents also need adequate sleep and some child free time to ensure their own needs are being met. As children grow, they can learn to become more independent in their sleep routine and be less demanding than infants. The goal is for children to develop healthy, independent sleep patterns. This discussion group will give some positive parenting strategies to help you develop a good bedtime routine. No School Friday - Hungry for Adventure      ages 9-12 Join us for a day of adventure and life skills! This program combines our “Lunch Box Hero” program with an afternoon of outdoor adventure including geocaching, tree identification and nature inspired games.  In the morning, we’ll learn how to pack our own lunches, food safety and hygiene, and try out a great recipe! In the afternoon, we’ll walk to Lion’s Park for an afternoon of adventure with Boreal Forest Guides. Please pack a water bottle, wear closed toe shoes (no sandals or flip-flops) and weather appropriate clothing. Participants with long hair are asked to tie their hair back in the kitchen. PLC Evening Programs - Passport to the World Have you ever wondered when kids in Japan go to school, what kids in India eat, or what kids in Brazil do for fun? Come join us and find out fascinating facts about other cultures and countries. We will learn different recipes, and colour flags and fun pictures of the showcased country. If you have an item for show and tell, bring to share.  On the following Thursday, we will do a craft to highlight the country and get a stamp for your passport. No School Friday - The Mighty Meatball             ages 9-12 Empower your pre-teen to take charge of the supper hour with this hands-on cooking program. Infant Massage   Infant massage is a great way to interact and bond with your baby.  Of the five senses, touch is one of the most important developed after birth.  Please join us Mondays to learn new massage techniques while interacting with other parents. Babies must by 8 weeks old by the start of class.
