Public Notice: New round of provincial restrictions to curb COVID-19

Cold Lake, AB – The Government of Alberta announced additional public health measures on December 8 to help curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

“Since the start of the pandemic the City of Cold Lake has diligently followed the advice of the provincial health authority, while remaining at the ready to assist our health care providers as needed,” Mayor Craig Copeland said. “Our heart goes out to those who have lost someone through these times, and to those who have had their health compromised by COVID-19. Our heart also goes out to people and businesses negatively affected, and we remain committed to protecting lives and livelihoods by following the measures put in place by the federal and provincial health authorities. We thank the Government of Alberta for their leadership, and the provincial health authority for their guidance.”

Included in the December 8 announcement are the following public health measures:

Effective immediately:

  • Mandatory masks in all indoor workplaces, province wide
  • No indoor or outdoor social gatherings are no longer permitted

Effective December 13:

  • Retail operations limited to 15% of the fire code capacity
  • Restaurants, bars, pubs, lounges, and cafes will be allowed take out only
  • Personal and wellness services will be closed including massage, and recreation facilities
  • Casinos, nightclubs, bingo halls are also closed.

The Government of Alberta is also discouraging all out-of-town travel at this time.

This is not necessarily an exhaustive list of the new measures. The new measures are expected to be in place for at least four weeks. The City of Cold Lake is working to understand the impact these measures will have in their entirety and will announce an impact on its programs and services on and through its social media channels.

The City of Cold Lake, the Cold Lake Emergency Operations Centre, and members of the COVID-19 Taskforce have done an excellent job in the development of plans and supporting initiatives such as the Cold Lake’s COVID-19 Testing Centre in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Public Health. The city continues to stand ready to support the pandemic initiatives and the orders of the Chief Medical Officer of Health.

A special council meeting called in the City of Cold Lake for Wednesday, December 9, 2020 has been cancelled.
