Property Assessment

The City of Cold Lake's property assessor estimates the market value of real estate in the community. The property taxes owners pay are proportionate to the value of their property. While property owners cannot appeal their tax notice, property assessments can be appealed by the appropriate deadline. 2021 Municipal Property Tax Rate

The mill rates charged against the value of property in Cold Lake are passed each year in the Tax Rate Bylaw, available on the Bylaws & Policies Page. The tax rates for 2021 are as follows:

  Residential/Farmland 8.8555
  Multi-Family Residential 8.9470
  Non-Residential 12.7975
  Machinery & Equipment 12.7975

Tax Rebate Program for Seniors

  • The City of Cold Lake offers a rebate program for eligible seniors, wherein they may be able to receive a rebate for the increase in the municipal portion of property taxes from the previous tax year. To apply for this program, please use the Tax Rebate Program for Seniors Form.


Payment Options

In Person:
Payments at City Hall can be made through cash, personal cheque or debit during regular business hours.  

By mail:
Cheque or money orders payable to "The City of Cold Lake" can be mailed to 5513 48 Avenue, Cold Lake AB T9M 1A1.  Ensure that a reference to the property tax roll number is included for proper allocation of payment.

Online Banking:
Residents and businesses can set up the City of Cold Lake as a payee to make property tax payments online. Have your City roll number found on your tax notice (click to see sample) ready when establishing the City as a payee. Roll numbers are unique to the property; if you have moved within the City of Cold Lake please update your payee number to the roll number for your new property.

Pre-Authorized Bank Transfer:
Residents and businesses can arrange to pay their property taxes through the City's Tax Auto Debit Pre-Payment Plan wherein monthly installments are automatically debited from your account on the 15th of each month. Tax Auto Debit Pre-Payment Plan forms are available at City Hall. A printable version can also be downloaded here:

Credit Card:

To pay property taxes via credit card, click here. OptionPay is a third party website that collects the funds on behalf of the City of Cold Lake. There is a fee to pay via this option, which is calculated at time of payment. The City of Cold Lake does not receive any of the transaction fee when this payment method is used.
