How to Support a Loved One with Dementia Through this free workshop, you will gain knowledge in the different ways those experiencing dementia communicate.  Develop an understanding of how dementia affects a person’s ability to convey their thoughts and feelings.  This workshop will provide communication strategies recommended when talking with someone with dementia.  It will assist caregivers in understanding the benefits of validating a person’s feelings when they are communicating.  It will also address the importance of body language of a person with dementia.  Caregivers, friends and family can help a person with dementia to feel valued and included; this workshop will give you some tips to do so effectively. John Dunn, a National Geographic published photographer, presents an illustrated talk about his Ellesmere Light Expedition: A Summer Crossing of Canada's Northernmost Island. He brings the island to life with stories and images from his fascinating expedition. Covering 750 km in 50 days, the team relied on some ingenious and lightweight equipment to solve the many challenges posed by a long summer journey in the high Arctic. He is presenting at the South Branch library in Cold Lake (5513 B 48th Ave.) on January 29, 2019 at 7:00 PM. This is a free, drop-in event open to everyone.

“What to do When” – Your Worries Get Too Big This session is based on the “What to do When” series of youth workbooks.  It is designed to introduce and exercise practical and healthy coping strategies for a variety of situations and challenges. Wouldn't it be great if you did not worry at all?  What if you plant your worry and watch it grow?  Many things may be on a child’s mind, from what they are going to eat the next day, to what friends they are going to play with at school.  This interactive course is designed to empower kids to overcome their overgrown worries.
