Safety Code Permits

Safety Code Permits are required for electrical, gas, or plumbing system installations in new construction. They are also required in order to make changes or upgrades to the electrical, gas or plumbing systems in existing buildings. Permit applications are processed in the order they are received. To see a list of fees, please check the Planning and Development Fee Schedule Bylaw on the Bylaws and Policies page.

Safety code permits remain in effect for twelve (12) months from the date of issue. After 12 months, permits are considered expired and are no longer valid. If a construction or renovation project takes longer than 12 months to complete, you must re-apply for all necessary safety code permits. See Safety Code Fees here (PDF).
