Mobile Vendor Permit

Mobile Vendor Permits are required for any business that is offering food, merchandise or services for sale from a mobile or portable unit, rather than from a permanent storefront location. Examples include businesses such as food trucks, produce/fish trucks or ice cream vendors.

Applications can be made by submitting the application form and supporting documentation. The application requirements vary depending upon the type of business and whether the vendor is operating on City property or private property. All vendors must provide:

  • A completed application form;
  • The required application fee;
  • A site plan of the proposed vending location(s) identifying the Vending Unit and setback distances;
  • A Property Owner Authorization Form;
  • Photos/drawings of the Vending Unit.

The City may also require an applicant to submit, where applicable:

  • A weekly schedule of operating locations and hours;
  • Proof of valid Alberta Health Services Food Handling Permit;
  • Proof of Vehicle Registration and Insurance;
  • Proof of $2,000,000 general liability insurance (if operating on City property);
  • Waste Disposal Plan;
  • Letters of non-objection from affected businesses;
  • Proof that the Vending Unit has passed a Safety Codes Inspection and Fire Inspection within the last year

FAQ

Vendor permits can be issued on an annual (valid for one (1) year from the date of issue) or temporary/special event basis (valid for three (3) consecutive days). Vendor Event Organizer Permits are valid for seven (7) consecutive days.

Event organizers have the option to apply for a Vendor Event Organizer Permit which covers all vendors operating at their event.  If an event organizer does not wish to apply for a Vendor Event Organizer Permit, each individual vendor will require their own permit.

Yes, all vendors require a Business Licence in addition to their Mobile Vendor Permit, unless exempted by the Business Licence Bylaw. Where a Vendor Event Organizer Permit has been issued for a particular event, a single Business Licence can be issued to cover all vendors operating at that event.
