Cold Lake Council approves its list of strategic priorities

Cold Lake, AB – At its regular meeting held on December 9, 2025, Cold Lake City Council approved its strategic priorities.

Council’s strategic priorities guide its efforts, and those of administration, to ensure municipal resources are directed towards fulfilling council’s vision for the community. The priorities were established after a two-day session held November 29 and 30. The session was guided by a third-party facilitator and attended by elected officials, CAO Kevin Nagoya, and the City’s general managers.

“This is a great step forward, especially for a new council at the beginning of it’s term,” Mayor Bob Mattice said. “It was encouraging to see that everyone had input into the process, and that we as a council are shaping a collective vision for the next four years and beyond.”

Progress on council’s strategic priorities is reported in the City’s Annual Report, and a list is maintained on www.coldlake.com.

“Our strategic priorities give us a solid roadmap for the journey ahead, but also allow us the flexibility to take detours,” Mattice said. “While we certainly look to the top of the list first, we are broad enough in our approach that other priorities can be advanced should an opportunity present itself. Council’s priorities were very much shaped by what elected officials heard from the public during the election process, and are squarely focused on providing our residents with a high quality of life in a safe and thriving community.”

Cold Lake City Council selects five top priorities as its main focus, and lists others for administration to monitor and advance as opportunities allow. The priorities identified by council are:

  1. Public Safety
  2. Medium and High-Density Housing Supply
  3. Doctor and Medical Professional Recruitment and Retention
  4. Arts and Culture Building
  5. Homelessness

Other priorities are:

  • Housing Incentives
  • Addictions
  • Sports Tourism
  • Community Digital Billboard
  • Available Commercial Space and Land
  • Ambulance Service
