The City of Cold Lake will canvass its residents to see how strong the local market is for fiber optic internet connections, in the hopes that investors could be encouraged to make the required infrastructure available throughout the City.

CL Medical Clinic will begin to open its doors on Saturdays to test the demand and capacity for additional clinic hours in the community.

Cold Lake City Council will make no changes to parking regulations to limit commercial vehicles from parking along Lakeshore Drive, or anywhere else in the community, for the time being.

At the Alberta Municipalities Convention held last week, Chief Administrative Officer Kevin Nagoya received the Dedicated Chief Administrative Officer Award. The award recognizes Mr. Nagoya’s more than 17 years of service as a CAO and more than 20 years of total service in the City of Cold Lake, having started with the municipality as the Director of Infrastructure Services prior to taking the helm of the city’s administration.

Construction for the sidewalk extension on 16 Street is set to begin in the next few weeks. The sidewalk will roughly run from 11 Avenue to 14 Avenue along 16 Street, providing approximately 230 metres of length needed to finish connecting 16 Avenue to 8 Street for pedestrians.

For the fourth year in a row, Cold Lake City Council will maintain its electrical and gas franchise fees instead of choosing to increase them.

Council approved three sponsorship grants as well as one additional sponsorship outside of the City’s Community Recreation, Art, Culture and Heritage (CRACH) grant program.

Following calls for a painted crosswalk in the community, Cold Lake City council passed a motion to move forward with a street painting on 10 Street that will honour veterans and their service.

Cold Lake Mayor Bob Mattice and Dr. Chander Gupta, the founder of CGA Medical Imaging Inc., signed an agreement today that provides the partnership framework to bring an MRI machine to the Cold Lake clinic.

Cold Lake City Council voted unanimously to formally raise concerns with the Minister of Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) that his ministry, and the Department of Justice Canada, seemingly used misleading information in its Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) arguments to improperly influence decision makers.
