Council approves third Childcare Space Incentive Grant

Cold Lake, AB – Cold Lake Council approved the City’s third grant to incentivize the creation of childcare spaces, with a total of over 170 new childcare spaces having been created in the community since the incentive program was launched.

Kiddie Cove Academy, located downtown Cold Lake, has been licenced for 78 childcare spaces for children aged 12 months to 5 years, and for 30 out-of-school care spaces for children aged 6 to 12 years. The Childcare Space Incentive Grant provides an incentive of $1,500 for up to 20 approved childcare spaces, making Kiddie Cove Academy eligible for the maximum grant amount of $30,000.

“The response to this program has been fantastic,” Mayor Bob Mattice said. “Not only are jobs being created, but they are also providing a service that is in high demand, and which allows families to participate in the labour market when they are ready to. It’s very encouraging to see this program have such a positive impact so quickly.”

Kiddie Cove Academy is the third childcare provider to successfully apply for the grant after establishing new, provincially licenced childcare spaces in the community.

The 4 Wing Military Family Resource Centre Society was awarded a $30,000 grant for creating 40 new childcare spaces in late 2025.

In August of 2025, council approved a Childcare Incentive Grant for Haven Childcare, a provider that had 24 licenced spaces created.

The program remains open with funding available for another 40 new childcare spaces. More information about the Childcare Space Incentive Program, and other incentive programs maintained by the City of Cold Lake can be found at www.coldlake.com.
