Council sponsors 2026 Xtreme Bulls and Broncs event
Cold Lake, AB – Council passed a motion to provide next year’s Xtreme Bulls and Bronc event with a sponsorship of $10,000 with the hopes that the event builds off its success and works towards sustainability.
“Large events in a small town often need help getting started,” Mayor Bob Mattice said. “Last year’s event was a tremendous start, and we look forward to seeing how the 2026 event grows from initial success in 2025. It is a unique use of the Energy Centre, and it was an exciting event to see take shape.”
The 2025 Xtreme Bulls and Broncs event, held in Imperial Oil Place at the Cold Lake Energy Centre, had $10,000 in direct sponsorship support from the city. The city also agreed to furnish the clay, equipment and other materials to build the floor needed for bull riding and saddle bronc competitions at an additional cost of $45,000.
Since the materials from the 2025 event can be reused in 2026 and subsequent years with minor top ups, the level of support needed to sustain the event should taper off, especially as the bull and bronc riding show gains popularity within the region.
“They were able to bring in some high-ranking cowboys who were competing at an international level,” Mattice said. “We know it was well received by the crowd, but we also heard that the cowboys themselves appreciated the event, so it sounds like the organizers have a strong foundation to build upon.”
The event is scheduled for May 8 and May 9, 2026. Additional details will be advertised as the event approaches.
