Municipal election nominations still open
Cold Lake, AB – Nominations close in less than eight weeks for the upcoming Municipal Election, where residents will vote to elect their next mayor and council.
“It’s been an honour to serve the Cold Lake community for as long as I have,” said Mayor Craig Copeland, who announced earlier this year that he would not be seeking re-election.
For those interested in running for an elected official position, Alberta Municipalities is offering an online webinar training course about the responsibilities, daily operations, and community impact of serving in a local government. The course is available on several different dates prior to nominations closing on Sept. 22.
“Being an elected official is a big responsibility, and there’s a lot more to it than some people realize,” said Copeland. “Every city has a lot of moving parts, as well as a lot of people behind the scenes who keep things operating smoothly.”
In addition to the online training offered by Alberta Municipalities, there are several documents on the City of Cold Lake’s website that provide insight into the dozens of boards, committees, and commissions that council is a part of.
Residents are reminded to make sure they are registered with Elections Alberta prior to the election, to ensure a quick and smooth voting process at any advanced poll or on election day.
