Municipal Enforcement equipped with body cams

Cold Lake, AB – Municipal Enforcement officers will be wearing and using body cameras during interactions with the public in the coming weeks.

City of Cold Lake has purchased and received body cameras for deployment from Axon. These cameras can record video and audio. Officers are expected to activate their cameras during any of the following interactions:

  • Arrests or detentions
  • Use-of-force interactions
  • Traffic stops
  • Investigative contacts and interactions.

“We want to make the public aware that our officers will be equipped with body cameras,” said Mayor Bob Mattice. “The goal is to increase transparency and safety for both our officers and the public.”

Although officers are not required to tell you they are recording, they are trained to do so when possible.

The footage from the cameras can improve things like safety, evidence collection, documentation, and prosecution. The footage may be disclosed to the courts in accordance with court procedures and process of law.
