New tools for Cold Lake Fire-Rescue
Cold Lake, AB – Cold Lake Fire-Rescue has a set of new tools, thanks to the Enbridge Safe Community First Responder grant.
Two battery-operated mini cutters were added to the equipment used by Cold Lake Fire-Rescue, with one mini cutter being assigned to each fire station – the Lake District Station in the north and the Downtown District Station in the south.
“These mini cutters increase our capacity to perform rescue operations and safely access and release patients during vehicle extrications or other rescues,” said Protective Services Manager and Fire Chief Jeff Fallow. “It is important for each station to have the tools available, so there is no delay in response when a call comes through.”
Since 2011, calls for service have increased from 270 calls per year to a peak of 497 calls in 2025.
“Motor vehicle collisions continue to be one of our top three call types,” said Fallow. “And these mini cutters provide us with cutting capabilities where a conventional hydraulic tool may be impractical.”
Cold Lake Fire-Rescue received $12,500 from the Enbridge Safe Community First Responder grant to use toward the purchase of the two mini cutters.
