Animal Care and Control

We all play an important role to ensure dogs and cats can live in safety and harmony with their owners and neighbours in Cold Lake. Our Animal Care and Control bylaw regulates pet ownership in the City and the responsibilities of pet owners.

The Animal Care and Control bylaw is enforced by Cold Lake Municipal Enforcement.
Contact a Municipal Enforcement officer at 780-594-1345 if you see an animal in destress or running at large.
Call the Cold Lake Animal Care and Control Centre at 780-639-6406 or email animalcare@coldlake.com if you have lost your pet or found a pet.

Keep a leash on

Dogs and cats must be leashed when not on their own property. They are not allowed to run at large (except at the off-leash dog parks at the Energy Centre and CFB Cold Lake). Animals found running at large may be impounded. Fines for owners of animals found running at large start at $100 and impound fees start at $60 plus $20 per additional day.

Prohibited areas

Certain areas within the city are off limits to animals. The most common areas in Cold Lake are schools, playgrounds and Kinosoo Beach. These areas are always identified by signs indicating animals are not allowed. If you want to take your dog for a swim, please do it away from Kinosoo Beach. Cold Lake's public beach is for human family members only!
