Building #2

water treatment plant

Cold Lake's main water treatment plant is located at 102-10 Street and is also known as Building #2.

The water treatment plant receives fresh, untreated water from Cold Lake through an intake pipe which is 300 meters long and 30 meters below the surface. Once inside, the water is treated and brought up to Alberta Environment standards to make sure it’s safe to drink and use for things like cooking and bathing.

Nearly 10 million litres of water is treated here every day. That’s enough to fill your bathtub over 74 thousand times. Several transmission pipes (or mains) leave the water treatment plant and pump the water to reservoirs in different areas of the city (Buildings 5, 7, 10 and a reservoir on 4 Wing). The water is then distributed from the reservoirs to homes and businesses all over Cold Lake.

  • Building #5 supplies water to all of Cold Lake North.
  • Building #7 supplies water to all of Cold Lake South (except 4 Wing) and Building #10 at night.
  • Building #10 supplies water to all of Cold Lake South (except 4 Wing) during the day.

The water treatment plant also pumps water to the Regional Transfer Station for delivery to the Town of Bonnyville.
