Building #9

building 9

Building #9 is a sanitary sewer lift station located at 4760-54 Avenue and is considered one of the most important pieces of infrastructure in Cold Lake’s entire wastewater collection system. It's even been called one of the most important buildings in all of Cold Lake.

Lift stations move water from lower to higher elevations. Once the water is lifted high enough, it can continue flowing by gravity. All wastewater generated by the residents and businesses of Cold Lake flows through this building.

More than 6 million litres of wastewater is received here every day. There are three pumps inside this building that pump nearly 300 litres of wastewater per second. The pumps alternate about every three minutes. Wastewater received at Building #9 leaves via a large force main (pipe) that measures almost one metre in diameter. It’s pumped nearly nine kilometers to the City’s wastewater treatment facility (known as the Lagoons), south of the city. All wastewater produced in Cold Lake (with the exception of 4 Wing) ends up at the lagoons and is treated before being discharged into the Beaver River.
