Two grant applications for community funding were approved at the March 10 Council meeting.

A recent council meeting held a debate around how the city can best maintain neutrality when it comes to the use of city facilities for political rallies, petitions, and similar events where the public is asked to support a cause or sign a petition.

A request for lane closure and land sale near Lakeshore Drive was withdrawn after a public hearing for the lane closure was held on February 24.

Obtaining a family physician as a resident of Cold Lake has been notoriously difficult over the past few years, but recent months have started to see this shift.

At its meeting on Feb. 24, Cold Lake City Council voted in favour of adding a definition of a temporary project accommodation, and regulations for such a development, to the city’s Land Use Bylaw, should an application for such a development be submitted in the future.

Changes to Cold Lake’s Rural Renewal Stream program were made at the Feb. 24 council meeting after the city was informed that it would be allocated a total of 24 nominees under the program for 2026.

Council signaled to administration that it was open to having a look at draft regulations for tents and other temporary structures that are increasingly being used by the public at Kinosoo Beach.

Cold Lake Council will be holding a public hearing to gather feedback for changes to the city’s Land Use Bylaw to define and regulate “temporary project accommodations,” a definition meant to capture accommodations that would generally be described as work camps.

Grant funding requests and changes to policy were both approved for the Community Recreation, Art, Culture, and Heritage Investment Grant at the Feb. 10 Council meeting.

Council will be considering a multi-year plan to bring the City’s recreation user and rental fees closer to provincial averages.
