The City of Cold Lake will continue to seek information from ALTA Paramedic Health (APH) regarding the provision of ambulance services in the region as well as the increasing expectations that municipal fire-rescue services be available to assist with EMS calls.

At its meeting held earlier this week, Council discussed concerns raised by a resident relating to several limitations at the Cold Lake Marina and considered several means of overcoming the limitations identified. 

City Council voted to start its meetings an hour earlier in an effort to better balance work schedules with their commitments as elected officials.

At its May 12 regular meeting, City Council voted to set the 2026 municipal tax rates, resulting in an average residential municipal property tax increase of 2.48 per cent.

Due to ice still present in the marina, we will be unable to open on Friday, May 15, 2026, as initially planned.

Safety and security concerns brought forward by a slip holder at the marina prompted Council’s Corporate Priorities Committee to explore possible measures that could mitigate the issues identified.

Cold Lake Council approved the City’s third grant to incentivize the creation of childcare spaces, with a total of over 170 new childcare spaces having been created in the community since the incentive program was launched.

Cold Lake City Council revisited its Multiunit Rental Housing Incentive in an effort to help spur the development of purpose-built rentals in the community.

Cold Lake Council voted to establish a program that will incentivize the creation of new serviced lots that are available for the development of residential dwellings.

Proposed changes to recreational user fees are still being discussed by council. As part of the changes, an increase of two per cent to general recreation fees, and five per cent to Marina fees, would be considered in order to maintain affordable and accessible recreation opportunities, ensure fairness and consistency across user groups, and bring certain fees closer to regional market rates.
