Kirk “Rambo” Soroka, LCol (RCAF Ret’d)
Served as an Infantry Section Commander with the 3rd Battalion Princess Patricias Canadian Light Infantry before being selected to attend Royal Roads Military College where he completed a Degree in Military and Strategic Studies (Politics and Economics). After College he was commissioned and transferred to the Airforce where he became a Mass Attack lead - Fighter Weapons Instructor on the ECP583 R2 Modernized CF-18 Hornet and was given exposure training on the F35 in 2009 in anticipation of its delivery to Canada.
He was a tactical leader involved in several domestic security operations, NORAD scrambles and deployments into the Arctic, the Air War over Kosovo and Serbia, Air policing in the Balkan regions and the war in Libya. He completed an Exchange tour with the Royal Air Force Strike Command as their Chief Master Attack Planner in the United Kingdom’s Joint Forces Air Component Headquarters. While at the RAF he trained with several NATO countries throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa in the application of Strategic Air Combat Power
After 32 years of service, he retired from the Military in 2013 as the 4 Wing Operations Officer. He successfully transitioned into the Alberta Energy sector as a Construction Inspector for a major Pipeline Company but also keeps active in the Aerospace and Defence sector as a consultant assisting several clients. As an Aerospace Defence consultant, he has worked on numerous projects which have included developing innovative options for the Uruguayan Air Force General staff to plan and re-equip their air Force, supporting business development through Invest Alberta and UCAN Brave tech and advising on a supersonic UAV platform being developed. More specific to this conference, he was the Canadian Subject Matter Expert (SME) team lead for the Range Modernization Study aimed at creating an advanced 5th Gen aircraft Range and Range Control organization centred on the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range that would see a training benefit to the RCAF and return of US forces, NATO Allies and the currently dormant exercise Maple Flag to Cold Lake.
