Tavis McKay
Tavis McKay began his firefighting career in 2000 as a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Responder in Pincher Creek, Alberta, where he gained foundational experience in emergency response in a high-risk wildfire environment.
In 2003, he relocated to Cold Lake and joined the volunteer fire service. Demonstrating strong leadership and commitment, he was promoted to Captain in 2005, taking on an increased responsibility in operations, training, and incident response.
In 2017, Tavis transitioned into industry, joining Cenovus as a Firefighter. His experience and leadership led to a promotion in 2020 to Platoon Chief with the Foster Creek Emergency Services team, where he continues to lead emergency response operations and contribute to team development and safety performance.
Alongside his emergency services career, Tavis maintained a long-standing interest in RC vehicles and helicopters. As drone technology became more accessible, he recognized its potential applications within emergency response. Tavis has since flown a variety of drone platforms and successfully advocated for the acquisition of a thermal drone for our team.
Building on this initiative, he developed and implemented a drone program in collaboration with CLAWR, enhancing situational awareness and strengthening the capabilities of the emergency response team.
