Nathan Warkentin
Nathan Warkentin is an experienced professional with over 20 years in the oil and gas industry, including 15 years with Imperial Oil Ltd. He has specialized in Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) for the past six years, playing a key role in co-founding Imperial’s internal RPAS program.
Currently serving as an RPAS Subject Matter Expert, Nathan leads strategic initiatives that advance the integration of drone technologies into industrial operations.
Notably, he was the Project Manager for the multi–drone-in-a-box implementation at Imperial’s Cold Lake site—the first deployment of its kind in Canada. This program achieved a major milestone with the launch of 24/7 operations in Q2 2025, incorporating advanced detect-and-avoid (DAA) technologies to enhance safety and autonomy.
Nathan’s work focuses on innovation, operational excellence, and the scalable deployment of next-generation aerial systems in complex industrial environments.
